Professional Experiences

2003 - now

Joins Laboratori Guglielmo Marconi in Network Design division. Main activities:

Network design. Reorganization from scratch of network services in a big existing network (~5000 users): email/groupware, VPN, infrastructure design (DMZ, information fluxes among premises, …). Integration of VoIP and existing optical fiber infrastructure. Design of security in Europe-wide train network (security issues, policies, demo implementation).

Systems Linux administrator. Linux server administration: apache, qmail, MySql, LDAP, squid, mrtg, iptables, named, mnogosearch, system/network monitoring. Integrated LDAP/squid/webmail/groupware with custom scripts and schemas. Customized Windows services with Cygwin. Optic fiber networking tests.

Software development. C/C++, java, PHP (with mysql), python, perl, bash programming/scripting. Customization of Joomla CMS. Daily use of SQL, XML, HTML, ASP, CGI. C++ development with MS Visual Studio 6.

Relationships. In the past three years, joined two European projects, team-working with people from different countries. Some project management skills were developed.

2002-2003

In 2002-2003 he participated in the MA (Master) in Mathematics for Applications at the University of Bologna, helping Professor Massimo Ferri to teach Vision Mathematics.  The collaboration included a few lessons on the application of metric spaces to video surveillance and the use of mathematical techniques for eliminating shades from the images. It also included interviews with MA students.

2002 May - 2002 Dec.

Works as post-graduate for Università di Bologna. He continues his thesis work in video surveillance and publishes an article on shadow removal for ARCES: "An adaptive approach to Shadow Removal for the detection of vehicles in Video Surveillance Systems and an 8-connectivity labeling algorithm."

2003, Jan - 2003, Sept

Attends (and successfully passes final exam) a 1500 hours Master on Information Security. Course objectives: "To form qualified personnel able to design LAN/WAN secure networks, to administer client-server systems with authentication systems and intrusion detection, to define security policies that take into account infrastructures, technical solutions and procedures that grant an effective Security Management".

2002, Nov.

Successfully passes the State examination for professional Engineer qualification

2002, March

Laurea in Ingegneria Informatica (5-year-long Informatic Engeneering university degree) at Università di Bologna with 99/100 points. Graduation thesis in artificial vision, titled: "Descriptors and metrics for tracking objects in image sequences for videosurveillance applications".
